i want to start an affiliate program on my site. However, this could entice affiliates to spam my site, compete with me on my keywords, register similar domain names, frame my site etc etc which will all damage SEO efforts. So should I wait until my site is established before starting an affiliate program, or can it still work out favourably if I start one straight away? thanks in advance
Hi,
The guru I listen to has said that you should really wait until you have at least 30 unique visits a day before monetizing. Now I think this all depends on the type of site you have . It’s your business and your choice.
But the upside to waiting until your site is established is that you can get listed on directories a lot faster. They don’t really like to list commercial sites.
You also want to have a well-established site that has a lot of good content that will entice people to come back often.
Is it a membership site? Having an affiliate program for a membership site will probably be a cornerstone to your success.
I wouldn’t worry about keyword competition and registering similar domain names, etc. There’s really nothing you can do about that. And as far as the framing issue, isn’t there a way to protect your site against that?
Hope that helps and good luck,
Healthy Mom
